The sorting pages have been put up!
This page is for lost souls who have no clue what to do.
During June and July, significant changes to the RPG will be occuring. The old Hogwarts, Diagon Alley,Mount Giant and so forth forums have been deleted. In there place will be one forum for role-playing. As of now, it's called RPG Mansion [though any suggested names are greatly appreciated =) ] You see.... well, I'll be honest. My role-playing skills.... I like to refer to them like this: a rock could write a better RPG than me. I think why Hogsmeade's RPG sucks SOOOOOO bad is because the Headmaster of Hogsmeade, I, am the worst friggin' role-player on the planet. It is for these reasons I have put two EXPERIENCED role-players in charge; Deputy Headmaster James and Dana Miller.
I have took these rules and guidelines from Dana's post. The admins of this board will express gratitude if you guys [board members] can do a little role-playing this summer. If you can't, okay, but I know a ton of you will be online a lot anyway. And... I know this might be an awful thing to say, but take a break from an already succesful board like the HPN or HP RPG and give *US* a bit of help in also becoming succesful!
Alright, well as for the other things about the board that you'll need to know.. get registered. An EZ Board account I mean. The instructions are in the "Registration" page! If you need a lot of help, I have been using ez board for two years now. I think I know some things about it. =) Just post here. The first thing you'll need to do after registering an EZ BOard account is hussle down to the Sorting and Signups forum to say hi and if you're joining the RPG, post your character description (this may change)
Questions and Answers
Q: What is an RPG?
A: It is a role-playing game where you write out a story with other people and act it all out in words.
Q: How do I register? Does it cost money?
A: You can register here, and it costs no money at all! It is completley free.
Q: Can I be an administrator/moderator?
A: Please do not ask that question. I must trust you before I give you that kind of power, and other mods and admins are not the ones to choose if you can have that kind of power or not so don't ask 'em either.
Q: Is their a certain age I must be to sign-up?
A: No, old enough to use a computer is good enough. But, since this is an HP Board and we'll likely have kids from ages 8-14 registering here, comments that are unsuitable for anyone in this age group may not be discussed. (Although I've been considering a "Teen Board".)
Q: What are all these Exams and Lessons and Classes I've been told about?
A: Another of the main things you can do in this RPG is learn about wizarding stuff. Teachers are appointed to teach out these things as closely to the book as they can. It isn't just like the book, though. Some is made off the tops of our heads. [Does 100% unofficial HP site ring a bell?]
Q: Where do I get sorted?
A: Below this par!
Q: Why isn't my siggy showing up?
A: In certain forums, signatures have been turned off to make page-load times much quicker.
Q: Why was my post editted out?
A: It probably had something inappropriate in it. Make sure you read the rules on the site and see if maybe one of those rules you might've broke. Also, if you advertise the very first time you post on the board, the admins and mods will edit it out.
Q: I am still unclear on a few things.
A: Come here then, and post a message.
RPG Rules
[Posted by Dana Miller here.]
Rule number one: Rules are made to be broken, so don't mess with them too much. Look on them as guidelines rather than a strict code of conduct.
Rule number two: Try not to get stuck in the predictability of reality (even for the magical world) when posting an RPG. Excitement and creativity are vital to help this forum survive.
Rule number three: Remember, this is a ROLE PLAYING GAME, emphasis on ROLE, PLAYING, and GAME. Any disagreement or dispute between characters in here should NOT carry over into the other forums, because things in here are MAKE BELIEVE, NOT REAL, FAKE, etc. If there is a disagreement or dispute, it can exist forever as far as I know, but ONLY in an RPG.
Enough rules for now...how about a few warnings?
Warning number one: Until we all get used to this...work it around a bit 'till it fits better, RPGs will fail all over the place. DO NOT LET THIS GET IN THE WAY. Progress does happen.
Warning number two: Many of the RPG attempts even after we're used to this WILL FAIL. This is not necesarily because they were bad ideas, only that it didn't quite 'kick it' with the group of people we have.
Warning number three: As I know from experience, we will all tend to forget rule number three. If this is ever the case, and something comes of it, try to work it out peacefully.
Last but not least, I would like to request that we all remain reasonable and considerate while in this forum. This DOES NOT MEAN you have to kill all hyperness (virtually impossible) or be an angel. It just means you need to be a little thoughtful.
Thank you very much for your time.
